Chechen Roots in Pankisi - Giacomo Sini Photography

The Pankisi Valley is a northeastern region of Georgia, bordering the Chechen Republic within the Russian Federation. In this valley lives an ethnic group called Kists who belongs to chechen roots. The sufi believe is widelu present in this muslim community and a sufi sisterhood celebrates every Friday in Duisi village's mosque a cerimony which belongs to an old sufi tradition. In this valley live also a community of chechen refugees who have escaped from the Chechen-Russian coflict between 1990 and 2000
